Vegas Ferris Wheel Approved
Clark County unanimously approved the 500 foot Ferris wheel and theme park. The Vegas Ferris Wheel will be constructed across from the Mandalay Bay. The complex will cover 10 acres at Las Vegas Boulevard and Mandalay Bay road.
The new facility may feature a roller coaster and six additional rides, a 140,000 sq ft retail complex and a 21,000 sq ft conference center. The site has a total of 38 acres.
Howard Bulloch of Compass Investments states that the estimated will be in excess of $100 million. Also, the FAA has given initial approval for the wheel, but has not yet signed off on the final plan.
A temporary 200-foot-tall Ferris wheel would be erected first and replaced with the full-sized sky wheel.
The Ferris wheel would have 40 heated and air-conditioned gondolas, that hold up to 25 people. The gondolas will have an amazing panoramic views, food and drinks. We are not sure if there will be adult beverages, but considering this is the Vegas Ferris our bet will be yes. A gondola would take half an hour to rotate
The Skyvue Wheel in Vegas may have some competition. Caesars Entertainment was planning “Linq” a $500 million entertainment, retail area that includes another Ferris wheel. Caesars Ferris wheel complex will run between the Imperial Palace and the Flamingo, which we think will be a tight squeeze. Bulloch said he is aware of Caesars’ plans. but whoever builds a sky wheel first wins, he said.
Commissioner Lawrence Weekly said it would provide entertainment to children, something lacking in the Las Vegas valley. Our concern is that Vegas is trying to be the Vegas of the 90’s and making Vegas a kid friendly place. We have seen too many children wandering around the casinos in Vegas, while there parents are gambling.

Female Caddies at Rio Secco Las Vegas
The Rio Secco Golf Club in Las Vegas has something pretty interesting going on and they are called T-Mates. T-Mates are Las Vegas’ only genuine female caddies. This is probably something you won’t tell your girlfriend about.
Guests of the Rio Secco can reserve aT-Mate who will server as your golf hostess or hostesses. The Website states: “Not only are they young and attractive ladies, but their Caddie skills have been tested through an intensive training program, and tee to green can match up to any traditional Caddie program anywhere.”
I wonder if Rodney Dangerfield would have ordered some of these from the pro-shop in “Caddy Shack”. “Give me two of those, a box of those, a set of naked lady tees and a free bowl of soup”.
What is a T-Mate?

Sahara Las Vegas is Closing
The Sahara Hotel and Casino is closing May 16th 2011. The Sahara opened in 1952 and starred in the original Oceans 11 now nearly 6 decades later, the 59 year old hotel has seen better days and will be closing its doors.
“The continued operation of the aging Sahara was no longer economically viable,” CEO Sam Nazarian of owner SBE Entertainment Group said. He also stated: “With Las Vegas showing early signs of recovery, we are confident that we ultimately will find a creative and comprehensive new solution for this historic property,”
We have visited the Sahara many times over the years and in the end they had to succumb to the $1 Blackjack and the no frills casino. The only saving grace was the visit from Man vs. Food who tried to eat their 6lb burrito. The Sahara is on the north end of the strip and it is not located in the best of areas. It was good for a cheap place to stay and gamble, but to get to the night life you either have to rent a car or hop on a bus.
Nazarian said his company is considering options of a remodel, but I wouldn’t hold your breath. It will be almost impossible to get financing in Las Vegas right now. All you have to do is look next door to Echelon which has been just a skeleton for years and the Fontainbleau hotel which will be unfinished for years to come. Let alone the empty lots all around. Vegas has taken a beating and it will be a while before it recovers.
Death at the Hard Rock Las Vegas Man Falls Nine Stories
A man fell nine stories to his death at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. The 38 year old executive who climbed out onto a railing and lost his balance and fell to his death.
This will probably give the brand owners of the Hard Rock more ammunition against Rehab Party at the Hard Rock. The TV show Rehab was cancelled this year due to a trademark lawsuit this past September.
Hard rock Cafe International said that the Las Vegas Parties were tarnishing the Hard Rock brand. We see it otherwise, but our guess is that the Hard Rock Las Vegas wasn’t making any money on the casino floor because all the Partyer’s were scaring away the paying clients.
Absinthe Las Vegas
Absinthe Las Vegas (Not the Drink) features adult comedy and crazy acts only the Internet has seen. The show is taking Vegas by Storm. Absinthe is performed within mere feet of the audience surrounding an intimate stage. Absinthe is an adult show
Absinthe is located at Caesars Palace in Spiegeltent this is an Outdoor Event.
The New York Times writes: “Cirque du Soleil channeled through Rocky Horror,”
The Las Vegas Sun says: Absinthe is “the most inventive and daring show to open on the strip in years,”
Fuse InTune Earbuds Review
While we were at CES 2011 we came across Fuse Intune Earphones. Since we lost a set of earbuds on the flight out were were inclined to stop at every earbud dealer. After our stop at the Nvidia booth, we found a very nice display from Fuse.
Fuse has different brands of earbuds, from the “Skullcandy” kid friendly to the colorful. It is not uncommon for people to buy the best looking earphone with out even listening to them.
After perusing their wares, we found the InTune brand, which tunes their earphones to the type of music you listen to. They have Pop/Easy Listening, Jazz/Classical, Rock/Blues/Country, and Rap/Hip Hop. Each set has a different driver that is designed for that type of music. The packaging helps you define which earphones best suit your genre by a graph of the sound curve on the box.
We listened to them all many times over. They all produced different sound curves.
What we realized during our listening experience is that we do not listen to one type of music. The Pop/Easy Listening had too much mid range, the Jazz Classical didn’t have an tonality, the hip hop had too much bass and not enough highs. Our end result was to get our hands on the Rock/Blues/Country Version because they best fit all of our listening needs.
The rock/Blues/Country had the best overall sound and the EQ setup was just a little bit of a smiley face, the way we like it.
The cable doesn’t keep any shape, which is good. I wrap my earphones around three fingers and push the jack through and that is how I leave them until next time. The cable is a bit sticky, not like glue or tacky, but you cannot pull them out of your pocket very easy.
The downside to all the earphones, is that they have a hard time getting set in your ear. I noticed, I reset the earbud in my ear at least once if not twice during a listening session. They also feel heavier so that may be the problem with having to re-seat them. The longer you wear them, you get used to them, but I felt like I needed a break from them after a long session.
Currently I use them for writing and listening to music and they are now my go to earphones, or the ones I do not wish to lose, so I keep them in a safe place.
Overall we found these earphones to sound better than the Logitech earphones we looked at earlier in the day, and we even went back to the Logitech booth to compare.
One thing we did mention to the Fuse company was their packaging did not set them apart and it would be hard to compete against the flashier type of advertising. But with a $24.99 price tag, they are worth the purchase.
