Bradley Ogden Vegas Restaurant Closing; Hell’s Kitchen’s Ramsay Taking Over?

It looks like Hell’s Kitchen will have a big presence in Las Vegas–at least, Chef Gordon Ramsay will have a big presence. With the news that Bradley Ogden in Vegas is closing, it was also announced that a gastro-pub in conjunction with Ramsay will take its place. The news comes after our earlier report on Ramsay’s first Vegas restaurant in Caesars Palace. Bradley Ogden, the only Las Vegas restaurant ever to win a James Beard national “Best New Restaurant of the Year Award” (2004), will be serving its last supper sometime in mid-October. After that, work will begin on turning it into the gastro-pub.

This comes on the heels of the news that Ramsay plans to open a minimum of three restaurants in Vegas. None have materialized as yet, but “announcements are on the way shortly” according to Ramsay’s group. Ramsay sold his New York outpost, London NYC, amid a legal battle with his father-in-law. He is hoping to revive his brand in Vegas, and three restaurants here in partnership with Caesars, will be a big roll of the dice. It appears that the Hell’s Kitchen and Masterchef star is going all-in on Vegas restaurants. We’ll keep you posted. “Pawn Stars” in Vegas a Hit

The History Channel’s television show “Pawn Stars” has become a huge success since its debut in 2009 and one of the top attractions on the Strip. As many as 5,000 people a day have been known to start lining up early at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop to check out the site of the show and purchase items. It also became the most-watched show on cable TV, with over 8 million viewers every Monday night. The shop has also undergone a recent expansion.

From its humble beginnings as a family-owned business (Richard “The Old Man” Harrison, his son Rick, and grandson Corey, also known as “Big Hoss”) to its current status as a reality hit, Pawn Stars in Vegas has entered the minds of many, both in Vegas and out. It’s also made a star out of Big Hoss’ childhood friend, Austin “Chumlee” Russell. All of the guys on the show are constantly looking for fake items, deals, and unique items, so every show can turn out a different way depending on the circumstances. The Pawn Stars have purchased a working hot air balloon, a missile guidance system and Harry Houdini’s handcuffs, among other things, while turning down items such as Soviet shuttle launch keys and pirate treasure. The business was started in 1988 and thrives to this day amid the billion-dollar casinos and night clubs. The boys from Pawn Stars are even currently on a “road show” style traveling tour. Follow-Up: O’Shea’s Will Be No More Until 2013 – Vegas Project Linq

O'Sheas VegasWe’ve recently received word after reporting on Project Linq that O’Sheas will be no more. It will merge with Imperial Palace, which will be rebranded and change names after it gets a makeover. This is the reference to “re-skinning” both O’Sheas and Imperial Palace.

Caesars owns both properties and plans to relaunch a different O’Sheas in summer 2013. We will miss the current O’Sheas. Where else can you be served beer by a leprechaun?

Vegas Gaming Revenue Jumps 16 Percent in June

Even in an uncertain economy, Las Vegas continues to grow. In the month of June, statewide gambling revenue jumped 16 percent. This was the second straight month of increases of 10 percent or more, and the largest since February 2010. Most of the revenue came from high-spending baccarat players, so it sounds like more people need to head to our gambling section and check out How to Play Baccarat. Slot machines and table games also saw a significant increase, pointing to a recovery of the Vegas area as a whole. We’re happy to see that Vegas is doing well, and if you want to head out there and get going with the gambling, we have a deal for you at the Bellagio.

Caesars Entertainment Corp., with more than 50 properties in six countries, has narrowed its debt thanks in large part to its 10 Strip-area casinos. With casinos in other parts of the country temporarily closing down due to weather or simply not making money, Vegas-area casinos have shined. Even with customers actually visiting less, they are spending more money when they do, in large part to increased room fees and good demand. As we reported earlier, Project Linq is set to go, as well as completion on 662 unfinished hotel rooms in the Octavius Tower at Caesars Palace. Caesars also owns the World Series of Poker, which had record-setting attendance and a record prize pool of $190 million in June and July. Caesars Palace in Vegas to Open Famed New York Steakhouse

Vegas Old Homestead Caesars

One of the longest-running restaurants in America will have a new home on the Strip in Vegas, as by the end of 2011, Caesars will house Old Homestead steakhouse. The restaurant has been around since 1968. This version will seat 250 people and is 16,000 square feet. It will be designed to feature items reflecting the East Coast history of Old Homestead. It will replace Nero’s, which was located near the Colosseum theater. They are famous for being too much to eat in one sitting and promoting the four food groups–beef, beef, beef, and beef–while challenging patrons with items such as a 32-ounce ribeye. Old Homestead does have some prior experience feeding gamblers, as the Atlantic City location proves. For a place to stay while you pig out, check out our great deal on hotels. Caesars Ready to Start $500 Million Strip Project

In the face of the recession, Caesars is doubling down. Construction will begin this month on a $500 million mid-Strip project called Linq that will include a restaurant-entertainment district (326,000 square feet) linking the Imperial Palace and Flamingo resorts, a “re-skinning” of Imperial Palace and O’Sheas, and a 550-foot “observation wheel” that is like a Ferris wheel, but houses 30 people per pod. This will also create 1,500 permanent new jobs and employ about 3,000 construction workers. We wish Caesars the best on this 18-month project. The Palms in Vegas Sold

The Palms was sold to Caesars Entertainment

It’s official–The Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas is no longer owned by the Maloofs, as of last month. Now, they own just two percent of the property, with the possibility of gaining back up to 20 percent in the future. TPG Capital and Leonard Green & Partners assume ownership at 49 percent apiece. The Maloofs spent half a billion dollars building the casino from scratch, and were $380 million in debt for the Palms, with a $69 million line of credit with the city of Sacramento for their operations of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings.

TPG Capital is the parent company of Caesar’s Entertainment, where you can get rates low as $99 a night, so it is likely that the Palms will be converted to Caesar’s Total Rewards program within the next year (use your comps up now before re-branding begins!). We wish the Maloofs and the Palms the best of luck.

Las Vegas Showgirls Protest Hotel Resort Fees

Las Vegas headliner Marie Osmond and dozens of showgirls are protesting resort fees charged at many Las Vegas hotels.

Osmond and the roughly 50 performers from the Jubilee! show at Bally’s Las Vegas hotel-casino marched on the Las Vegas Strip Thursday morning to promote Caesars Entertainment’s no fee policy.

Caesars Entertainment claims its no-fees policy saves travelers $3 million per month. Other hotels charge anywhere from $4.50 to $24.99 per night, according to Vegas.com.

Las Vegas resort fees are usually not included in an advertised room rate. They cover hotel amenities ranging from fitness center access and internet service to valet parking.

The event Thursday morning was dubbed a gesture of solidarity with the American consumer.

Magicians Penn & Teller and other entertainers also joined the protest.
